Working Dog Receives Creative Compensation Package

Globe writer Tracy Jan seeks to raise hackles with her lead: "While colleges everywhere trim their staffs to offset shrinking budgets, Simmons College just made a key hire: a 5-year-old border collie named Finn." It turns out that Finn works for proverbial peanuts: "lots of walks, a handful of baby carrots, and an occasional 'good boy'!

Pet First Aid Class, February 10

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center of New England (VESCONE) is offering a pet first aid class Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m. VESCONE is located in Waltham at 180 Bear Hill Road.

In this class pet owners will learn the basics regarding the most common pet emergencies and how to recognize if something is wrong with your pet. The class is interactive: you and your pet participate in a workshop to learn how to get a pulse, heart beat, check the gums, and get a temperature, set up a first aid kit, safe transport and even bandage application.
